What Does the Compressor Do?

Often referred to as the heart of the heat pump, the compressor pressurises refrigerant gas, significantly raising its temperature. This hot, high-pressure gas then flows to the heat exchanger where it releases thermal energy into the pool water circuit. After releasing its heat, the refrigerant cycles back through the system to absorb more energy from the outside air. This continuous cycle is what enables the heat pump to warm your pool efficiently, even when outdoor temperatures are relatively cool.

Signs of Compressor Failure

Compressor problems can present in several ways: the heat pump running but failing to produce heat, unusual noises such as grinding, clattering, or excessive vibration, the unit repeatedly tripping electrical breakers, error codes relating to compressor faults or abnormal refrigerant pressures, or the compressor simply not starting.
